inDecentralization of our energy supply is becoming a reality.
“A market-based system that sets the price of electricity based on supply and demand could avoid the problems of net metering (the policy of compensating distributed generators at retail electricity prices for the power they feed back onto the grid). A distributed trading system would give customers the ability to simply sell their power to the highest bidder.” Capitalism at its best.

What can I say, Dr. Stein? Though I would prefer that local communities take the initiative in transferring to clean energy, it appears that a market-based system may be another way forward.

I agree, Rosaliene. But the reality of frail humanity acting without short term self-interest interfering is, on the evidence of world history, not likely, IMHO. If the market can work for the betterment of the environment, then there will be far less opposition from the usual suspects. I’m currently reading Karl Marx as part of the Basic Program at the Graham School of the University of Chicago. At first exposure, he seems to diagnose the evils of capitalism, but depends on an impossible solution that defies human nature. Thus, the failure of his system pretty much everywhere. As you properly remind us, the climate problems are not something that can wait. And, I would add, can’t wait for the better angels of our nature to wake up.

Dr. Stein, you’re doing some heavy reading! I’ve always found Marx difficult to read 😦
If the enemy must pound on our door for us to wake up, we’re in deep trouble. Those “better angels” won’t stand a chance 🙂

Wow, this is very exciting. I’d love to see them to this in New Zealand.

I thought so, too, Dr. Bramhall. Here’s hoping that it’ll give an extra push to our transition to clean energy.

Dr. Bramhall, I’ve just read the news about community solar projects in Australia. It’s getting better! Check out the link below at HundredGivers.
