The hard truth about the Paris climate deal
The Rest is Up to Us
On December 12th, 2015, world governments meeting in Paris produced a landmark climate agreement… Paris isn’t the end of the story… Now, it’s up to us to strengthen these promises, make sure they are kept, and then accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels and toward 100% renewable energy.

Paris Climate Deal: Key Points at a Glance
Countries have promised to try to bring global emissions down from peak levels as soon as possible. More significantly, they pledged “to achieve a balance between anthropogenic emissions by sources and removals by sinks of greenhouse gases in the second half of this century.”

Quote from post: “Countries have promised to try to bring global emissions down from peak levels as soon as possible. More significantly, they pledged “to achieve a balance between anthropogenic emissions by sources and removals by sinks of greenhouse gases in the second half of this century.”
Key words: “promised” “as soon as possible” “they pledged”
Beware of political promises – They are as trustworthy as the types of people who make them, which means zero trust, zero value. Yes, you are correct: the “rest” is up to you all, and by “rest” I read “all of it.”
If doing something about climate change is believed to be truly important by “we the people” then it is going to be entirely up to “we the people” to deal with, to do something about, the issue. Vested interest, be it political, religious or financial, will be of no help here, quite the contrary.
As for the “new agey” zillionaires like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos moving in, there is a WWII term for them which was applied to the U-boats approaching a convoy: the sharks are gathering. These sociopaths are setting up the groundwork to grab control of any new “green” technology, developing and controlling it so they can have a monopoly, selling it to a trapped consumer base and building a whole new plutocracy from the economic chokehold they intend to place upon the entire planet.

Sha’Tara, I wish I could disagree with you on this, but, as you noted, relying on our political and other leaders to stand by their promises and pledges are no guarantee of any action whatsoever.
Our struggle continues.

Hey, I know I come across as a broken record, and quite negative. Wish I knew different. I admire your issue-oriented drive here. I’m also waiting to read other followers here to prove me wrong – nothing I’d like better. Thanks for not kicking me off you blog, eh? 🙂

This is clearly an issue where the people must lead and the leaders must follow.

How about a capital “AMEN!” as an echo to that comment.
