I’ve just received news that an excerpt of my novel, Under the Tamarind Tree, submitted for consideration, is featured today, August 25th, 2019, in The Writers’ Room section of the Stabroek News, Georgetown, Guyana. Also featured is an article titled, “Self-therapy,” about the author.

Even before reading the mini-bio, I was struck by the language and closely observed description of the protagonist’s living circumstances. Nicely done, Rosaliene!

Thanks, Laleh! The editor of “The Writers’ Room,” advised me earlier this week by e-mail that my submission was accepted for publication. I didn’t expect that it would be released so soon.

Congrats, Rosaliene. You deserve all the good news you can get, considering that the thought of living and writing in the same universe as Trump is enough to send anyone into therapy (I hope that reminder doesn’t spoil your day!).

Congratulations! I am so sorry to hear about all the pain you went through! It’s also exciting and encouraging to hear that you are utilizing your strengths toward positive change in society through your writings and your examples in life. GLB, thanks for dropping by and sharing your thoughts π Writing has been a real healing journey for me, as well as a rewarding, creative activity.
I tried connecting to your blog, but found no content. I wish you well as you continue to move forward along your own healing journey. So much can happen along the way. Be open to the stranger you may meet on an unexpected side road. So many strangers, who have become friends, have brought me to the point. Life works in mysterious ways. Celebrate each achievement, however small. Blessings β€

Thanks, Rosaliene. I do not have a blog. I mainly read others’ blogs. BTW, I used to be Peace Penguin and other aliases before I settled now on GLB, or Gayle, so I am the same person from before that read your blog, but now with a different name. Sorry for the confusion. But thank you so much for your encouragement!

Thanks for the disclosure, Gayle. I like to get to know the person I’m connecting with. The time spent on mutual sharing becomes more meaningful and transformative. Do stay in touch.

You are welcome! And I will stay in touch. Where you now reside used to be my old stomping grounds – in LA, Cali. I am actually from there, but I have lived and relocated to many places since then. Your story, as depicted from what I read in the article, is amazing!

Congratulations!! Well done indeed. It’s very difficult to have a book on sale in four different places and I wish you every success with it.

Thanks, John π I appreciate your well wishes for success. They are much needed to get my novel into the hands of readers who would enjoy it.
The author services plan that I signed up for through Lulu.com offers what they call GlobalReach Distribution. They also offer marketing services, but the cost was out of my reach. So I’m on my own with marketing and promotion.

Actually your book is also listed at the Book Depository, which is a far better alternative than Amazon – they treat their workers much better. Free shipping anywhere in the world. There’s no cover image though. Perhaps you could contact them about providing a cover image?

Dr. Bramhall, this is great news! Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for providing the link to Book Depository. As suggested, I’ve contacted them about adding a cover image.
Amazon is part of Lulu’s GlobalReach Distribution network. I couldn’t exclude them. Moreover, I’ve had several requests from friends who only buy books through Amazon.

Perhaps you need to have a quiet word with your friends, Rosaliene. One-third of Amazon workers are on food stamps (due to inadequate pay) and over xmas Amazon recruits among van-based homeless to increase their staff numbers. Line workers are forced to pee in bottles due to the ban on toilet breaks. This is besides the vast monopoly Amazon owns on consumer goods – they presently control 50% of US retail trade. If we don’t support non-Amazon retailers, we will lose them – and prices will go up if we have no one to turn to but Amazon for the basic products we need.
Perhaps you could gently suggest some non-corporate alternatives to your friends – besides the Book Depository, Powell Books in Portland also does low cost on-line retail. And Abe Books is a great alternative for used books.

A very good suggestion, Stuart. I’ve been boycotting Amazon for several years now, they get nothing from me.

By the way forget Abe Books. Amazon bought them out. That’s a very common pattern. They buy out competitors.
