Praise to the women of our world on this International Women’s Day 2021!
Praise to the women of our world who grow and reap our food crops with little or no pay.
Praise to the women of our world in the health care services who risk their lives daily, fighting to save the lives of our loved ones stricken with COVID-19.
Praise to the women of our world left alone to care for children suffering from debilitating diseases and mental illness.
Praise to the women of our world who sacrifice their dreams and talents to raise their children or care for aging and sick parents.
Praise to the women of our world who struggle to eke out an existence doing low-paid essential work.
Praise to the women of our world who support, defend, uplift, and empower other women and girls.
Praise to the women of our world who, despite the challenges of married life, continue to hold their families together within a loving and nurturing environment.
Praise to the women of our world who work in all levels of our local and national government to bring about the changes we need for a more just and equitable world.
Know that within our wombs, upon our shoulders, and under our nurturing hands rest the past, present, and future of our world.
Know, too, that from the beginning of recorded history, the power of women could not be left to female whims or to chance. Such women power had to be controlled and channeled for the enrichment of the Masters of Our World who hold the fate of both male and female within their grasp.
Know that the survival of our species relies more than ever before on the equal participation of women at all levels of decision-making worldwide.
Over the years, women have made great strides forward towards emancipation, but we are still far behind in gaining true equality with our male counterparts.
Twenty-two countries now have a woman Head of State or Head of Government. One hundred and nineteen countries have never had a woman leader. Only fourteen countries have 50 percent or more women in cabinet positions. At the current rate of progress, gender parity in ministerial positions will not occur before 2077.
Only 25 percent of the world’s national parliamentarians are women, an 11 percent increase since 1995. Only four countries have 50 percent or more parliamentarians: Rwanda (61%), Cuba (53%), Bolivia (53%), and the United Arab Emirates (50%). Nineteen countries have reached or surpassed 40 percent. At the current rate of progress, gender parity in national legislative bodies will not occur before 2063.
United Nations data for women from 133 countries show that women number 2.18 million (36%) of elected members in local government. Only two countries have reached 50 percent participation. An additional 18 countries have more than 40 percent in local government.
Learn more about the state of women in our world in the United Nations Annual Report 2019-2020.
On this International Women’s Day let us “Choose to Challenge” those in power who attempt to silence our voices for an equal and just world for all the peoples of our world.
Praise be indeed! That said, statistics can hide or manipulate a range of truths 😉

Thank you, Rosaliene. I find it so telling that people largely forget to celebrate International Women’s Day in the US. I’m very thankful for our female VP. I’m hoping for a woman President in 2025!

Rebecca, that would, indeed, be an even greater step forward for the United States!

I dream about it. A woman at the helm wouldn’t solve everything, but it would be a great start.

Nearly every nation has a long way to go. How optimistic are you that substantial gains might occur?

Neil, based on the research I’m doing for my current writing project on the woman as a social construct, I’m not optimistic about seeing substantial gains in my lifetime. I’ve observed that there is always backlash for each move forward that women have made. Moreover, men in power, past and present, are well versed in using women to push their agenda and maintain the status quo.

it won’t be fixed in a day, but the whole planet needs to re think it’s very existence, a rock from space shaved us just over a year ago, if it hit, we would not be having this exchange, I have a great mother, and I moan at men who treat women badly, they all have mothers, but one thing that raises all boats, is the power from above, the truly loving Spirit, not the spirit that divides, hope you have a very satisfying day, amen…

Well, I think we’ve done our bit here in the UK with two women Prime Ministers and a Queen. And a First Minister in Scotland and in Northern Ireland.

So true, John. The UK is ahead of the majority of countries worldwide, but the work is not yet done.

Thank you for sharing!!.. Happy International Woman’s Day!!… I believe that for centuries woman’s role in the world was kept minimized due to the closed minded male ego.. change is occurring in the world, and universe, for many things and while it may not happen soon, with knowledge and technology, change will happen for the women of the world also!!… 🙂
Until we meet again..
May the sun shine all day long
Everything go right, nothing go wrong
May those you love bring love back to you
And may all the wishes you wish come true

Thanks very much, Dutch! As occurred recently with changes in my web hosting service provider, progress forces us to accept change or leaves us behind.

Praise indeed to all women on this special day! At first glance I thought the figures for women in government impressive yet looking closer there is still a LONG way to go until complete equality in leadership positions or those within governments. Some countries are getting there quicker than others – may big strides be made so 2077 is not the reality for this to be achieved.

Annika, I, too, believed that we were making great progress with the number of women holding the top government position. Our struggle for a greater voice and representation continues.

Thank you for the needed praises for all women and for the statistics. As far as we still need to go, and as slow as it is, we seem to be making some progress. I’m reminded of this song Bee shared in her blog. We are going…. We will get there. A version I had not heard before. https://youtu.be/BwckMpR9V-Q

JoAnna, thanks so much for sharing the link to Wiyaala’s version of the song “We Are Going.” I quote here these verses from the song: “We will get there. Heaven knows how we will get there. We know we will.”
Yes, progress is slow, but we are making some progress.
