As an independent at heart, Bernie Sanders has been consistent in his values and policies over the years. Are the American people ready to wake up and listen to him? Are Americans ready to change course?

As I wrote on the original site: I do hope I’m wrong about this, but what comes to mind is H.L. Mencken’s quote: “No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.” Adlai Stevenson II, another high minded and well-educated man, gave a lecture (I believe at Sanders’ alma mater, the U of C) in which an enthusiastic supporter yelled out “Every thinking American will vote for you!” Stevenson’s reply: “Thank you, but I’d prefer a majority vote.” Again, I’d love a good man or woman in the White House and Bernie is one such. Thanks for reblogging it, Rosaliene.

Dr. Stein, thanks for sharing those words of wisdom from Mencken and Stevenson. From all I’ve been learning about Bernie Sanders, I too believe that he’s a good man. The American people he serves matter to him.
