USA Clean Power Plan on Hold
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday [February 9, 2016] delivered a major blow to President Barack Obama by putting on hold federal regulations to curb carbon dioxide emissions mainly from coal-fired power plants, the centerpiece of his administration’s strategy to combat climate change.

States rights are important. So are the rights of those who live outside those 27 states. So is the health of the globe and its inhabitants. The economy of the states and the lack of imagination and political will to find new ways to create wealth and health at the same time takes priority. This is a case that should have never been necessary for SCOTUS. Sign of the times.

Thanks for throwing more light on this issue, Bruce. Some of us forget that we all share the same planetary atmosphere. As the planet’s most powerful nation, economically and militarily, we are failing in our leadership role.

The “hold” plays into the dynamic of the political fight subsequent to the death of Judge Scalia. We will now have to wait and see how the nomination/confirmation process plays out, not to mention the election of a new President who will likely be making additional nominations to the court.

Indeed, Dr. Stein. We’ll soon be witnessing all the push and shove of the nomination/confirmation process. In the meantime, we continue to pump more carbon dioxide into Earth’s atmosphere.
