World’s Most Efficient Solar Electricity System?
In South Africa’s Kalahari desert, Swedish company Ripasso Energy is testing its new small-scale concentrated solar energy system which directly converts 32% of the sun’s energy hitting the mirrors to grid-available electric power, compared to roughly half that for standard solar panels.

Looks just the right size to fit on my roof! Seriously, some good news.

Yeah, it would also fit just right in our courtyard 🙂
I imagine that these units would be more appropriate for providing electricity to small towns in the USA and in the developing world, such as the islands in the Caribbean.

This post made me wonder about the research question we discussed a short while ago: to what extent are the environmental/climate change groups funding research to evaluate persuasion strategies. And, to refine the question a bit more, are scary, gloomy (even if realistic) voices of concern more likely to change minds than those who offer positive signs of responses to those concerns? I’m wondering the extent to which too much darkness causes people to tune the messenger out or become hopeless and inactive in trying to do something about the problem. I don’t know the answers, but thought I’d at least express the question.

I don’t know the answers, either, Dr. Stein.
There’s a young American cartoonist, writer, and organizer, Stephanie McMillan, who decided to do something about feelings of depression, hopelessness, and other difficulties that other activists face in working to bring about change. So she started writing inspirational messages that she calls “Daily Affirmations for the Revolutionary Proletarian Militant.”
