Landmark Dutch Lawsuit: The Urgenda Climate Case
The Urgenda Foundation has filed a lawsuit against the Dutch Government for not taking sufficient measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that cause dangerous climate change. The Urgenda Climate Case is the first case in Europe in which citizens attempt to hold a state responsible for its potentially devastating inaction.

Very interesting, Rosaliene. I believe some federal governments, including our own, have the ability to say no to such suits against them. I’d be interested to know how many permit this type of suit against them. Still, an encouraging sign.

Dr. Stein, I don’t know the legality of similar suits occurring in the USA, but their bold action draws attention to the role of our governments worldwide in failing to rein in carbon emissions. The verdict will be reached on June 24th.
