Capitalism vs The Climate
Fundamentally, the task is to articulate not just an alternative set of policy proposals but an alternative worldview to rival the one at the heart of the ecological crisis—embedded in interdependence rather than hyper-individualism, reciprocity rather than dominance, and cooperation rather than hierarchy.
~ Naomi Klein, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs The Climate, Simon & Schuster, New York, USA, 2014
In the middle are the politicians with the authority to take action over climate change.
Fighting for the attention of these pollies are climate scientists (on one side) and mega (polluting) corporations (on the other).
In comparison, climate scientists have very little bargaining power and will probably lose.
I made up an expression many years ago which is = = = “Those with expertise have no authority, and those with authority have no expertise”.
Another way it can be summed up is in this cartoon . . .

Thanks for sharing, Mick. I agree with your observation. That’s why we-the-people must unite and take action to make the change to renewable energy.

I checked the link you kindly provided us and noted Klein’s words that we are now in a place of “grow or die” – it is so sad the state of the planet now! Thank you for continuing to update us on the relevant issues.

The Pope’s public concerns re: climate change won’t hurt at all. Someone suggested in today’s paper that it would also be helpful if he recognized the climate-altering implications of the church’s position against abortion: more humans = more pollution. That, however, is likely asking too much.

The Pope remains firm on abortion but he did say earlier this year that Catholics shouldn’t breed like “rabbits” but should practice “responsible” parenting.
