The Great Wall of China and Hadrian’s Wall
surviving projections of great power
of ancient dynasties and empires
defense against barbarian attacks
breached by invaders and internal strife.
East Germany’s Berlin Wall of our times
projection of fear and intolerance
of the communist Soviet Union
defense against divergent policies
razed by cries for freedom and inclusion.
The USA-Mexico border wall
projection of fear and intolerance
defense against criminal invaders
withdrawal from global alliances
to stoke dispersion of moral decay.
The flame of Lady Liberty sputters
a refuge no more for Earth’s dispossessed
freedom, inclusion, human dignity
hostages of cries for former glory
strangled in the empire’s fading light.

An especially pertinent post Rosaliene, considering that this year we commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall 30 years ago, while despairing at the intention of the president of “the land of the free” to build an even bigger wall.

Denzil, those were dark days for the people of East and West Berlin. Since no wall can protect us from our real enemies, the walls of our times are intended to divide us.

Too bad we can’t build a wall around Trump with no way out. 😦

Mister Muse, I believe that he’s already doing that all by himself.

Hopefully you’re right, Rosaliene, but it’s taking far too long, and the longer it takes, the longer the recovery time for America (if not for the rest of the free world).

So true, Mister Muse. With regards to our environment and climate change, he may well have done irreparable damage.

A very poignant poem, Rosaliene. Living in Berlin, even though I was still a kid when the Wall came down, I know how walls can never bring any good but only despair and loss.

Thanks for adding your voice, Sarah. I’m sure your parents and grandparents have stories of such loss and despair.

Quote: “until the wall crashes from true wisdom taught
days when humanity finds the always sought.”
…and what could be that ‘always sought’? There is but one thing that has the power to change man’s mind about everything and that is for every individual to choose self empowerment through the practice of compassion. There is nothing to “seek” or to “find” because as intelligent, sentient, self aware conscious beings compassion is a part of us. It isn’t handed down from God, or the gods; it isn’t love, as in an emotion; it isn’t some sort of newagey esoteric concept. It’s not hidden in moon rocks on the far side of the moon. It is an innate aspect of being human, should we some day decide that we want to be human(e) and not just falsely cling to the label. Compassion is a force anyone can bring forth and use. It’s a choice, it always was, always will be and without it, mankind is doomed. It’s the one thing that changes everything.

We’ve suffered some sputtering of Lady Liberty’s torch before. Immigration quotas are not new, though the present wall-building madness seems both wasteful and cruel. The light may yet survive if we make sure it does.

Yes, Dr. Stein, we the people must make sure that the light of our nation is never extinguished.

Thanks, JoAnna. When? When our walls of fear, hate, and division destroy us from within.

Eloquent words Rosaliene. Trump’s ‘politics of fear’ will only result in further national decline as the US government isolates itself from the international community.
